Bonjour and bienvenue to The Good Life France Magazine Autumn 2023.

I am delighted to share this issue of the magazine with you – it’s chock full of fantastic features and fabulous photos, inspiring destination guides, scrumptious recipes, history, culture and much, much more.

The Good Life France Magazine is free to read, subscribe and share. Bringing France to you wherever you are:

The Good Life France Magazine Autumn 2023

This is a particularly delicious issue as we wind our way through the vineyards of Burgundy along the famed route of the Vallée de la Gastronomie, eat some of the best chocolate in the world in the town of Valrhona in southern France, and shine a light on Tournus, a hidden gem that’s a gastronomic destination extraordinaire. Plus we have some utterly irresistible recipes for you including for a classic and totally mouth-watering French Onion soup that will knock your socks off!

We catch up with an Australian family who fell in love with the abandoned Chateau de Gudanes at the foot of the Pyrénées mountains near Toulouse after they saw it advertised for sale on the internet. We take a look at their ten years of renovation – and it’s breath-taking, truly gorgeous.

Discover real, authentic France

Explore the swashbuckling seaside city of Saint-Malo in Brittany, and alpine Ariège, a land of tree-covered mountains overhung with chocolate-box-lid-pretty medieval villages. Visit the perfect place to spend autumn in France – the Rhone Valley in Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes. Footwear fans beware, coming up is a shoe museum the like of which exists nowhere else in the world. Seriously – shoe heaven.

Find out why an Armada of tall ships regularly floats into the ancient city of Rouen. Discover the bucolic countryside and seaside charms of Pas-de-Calais (my part of France) in the far north. And pop to sunny Bordeaux, historic Picardy, and lovely Languedoc Roussillon.

Discover the historic bell-makers of Normandy, traditional mat-making in Provence. Ogle a unique exhibition of French haute-couturier Yves Saint Laurent’s most incredible designs. Plus find out how French chef Escoffier changed the course of culinary history in France. And more…

I hope I’ve tempted you to flip the pages and that you’ll find this issue an entertaining, informational, and inspiring read.

Just click on the link and you’ll be whisked off to 120 pages of France, the next best thing to being there:

The Good Life France Magazine Autumn 2023

This magazine is totally free to read, and subscribe to, just hop on to page 4 and sign up! And please do share this issue with your friends – that’s free too.

It never ceases to amaze me just how rich the history of France is – and even more so, just how many traces of the past remain, preserved in the many historic buildings in every town and village. In this issue we’ll delve into the past of some of the great chateaux of the Loire Valley – unbelievably pretty Ussé (think Sleeping Beauty), Villandry, and the royal castles of Loches and Chinon where Joan of Arc changed the course of France’s destiny. We’ll also plunge into Plantagenet history, and we’ll explore the extraordinary story of a postman who built a palace from pebbles with his bare hands in a small village in the Drôme, southeast France.

Fabulous features – fantastic photos

France also has an incredibly diverse landscape – we head south, slow travel style, and explore beauties like gorgeous Sète, Aigues Mortes, Arles with its extraordinary Roman remains, and more. Then north to discover the prettiest villages and follow the historic wine route of Alsace. Then we’re back to the south to fall in love with glorious Vaucluse in Provence, where nature has a party in the spring. And we check out picturesque Perche in Normandy, explore Lyon and its surroundings, beautiful Brittany and charming les Charentes – Charente and Charente-Maritime.

Foodies will love the history of St Honoré – the patron saint of bakers – and also a scrumptious cake. And we’re sharing some absolutely mouth-watering recipes so you can enjoy a taste of France at home.

And there’s heaps more – from useful guides to top tours and what’s new in France.

So, dive into this issue, and don’t forget to subscribe if you’re not already. The magazine is free (see page 4 to subscribe) so please share this issue with your friends – that’s free too!

Bonjour from France

It’s been such a difficult year hasn’t it? So, I thought that it would be lovely if we can bring some smiles with a bit of festive fabulousness from France and I had an idea for a special Christmas issue of The Good Life France Magazine.

Just click here to get your copy – it’s free to read online, download and subscribe:

The Good Life France Magazine Christmas Issue

So I talked to some friends in the travel industry, style people, authors, top chefs and wine experts and they loved the idea. And they wanted to help make this issue super festive too. What began as a small project snowballed!

Recipes and decorations with French flair

Read on for a Michelin Star chef’s exclusive recipe for gingerbread and a heart-warming tale of the chef’s famous gingerbread making ancestor. Even my neighbour Madame Bernadette got involved! I wrote about her in my book My Four Seasons in France – how her Calvados based cocktails blow your socks off and her Christmas canapés induce her friends to sighs of happiness. Well, now you can make the cocktail too. And some of her favourite, very easy recipes that are perfect with aperitifs! And there are biscuit recipes, a gummy jelly recipe from a sweet toothed 2 Michelin star chef. Plus how to make the ultimate hot chocolate Paris style. And lots of food and drink features for your taste of France at home!

Plus there’s a fabulous “how-to” feature on creating a Christmas bouquet from the floral team at the Chateau de Chenonceau in the Loire Valley, known as the Castle of Flowers… And destination features on Bordeaux, Megève and Boulogne-sur-Mer.

12 brilliant giveaways

And enter all 12 of our giveaway draws. There’s a chance to win a brilliant week-long holiday in southwest France with a very special treat thrown in – wine tasting at a chateau anyone? Artwork, books, luxury bedding, gorgeous homeware, luxury gift boxes and much more. The giveaways in this issue are really, really wonderfully fabulous.

I know most of us can’t travel to France this holiday season, so we’ve concentrated very much on bringing France to you… And we’ll be sharing our popular advent calendar photos on social media so please join me there: Facebook, Instagram, Twitter

Bisous my little pig sty in the middle of nowhere, rural France.

The Good Life France Issue No. 26

We’ve aimed to bring France to you in these difficult days when we can’t travel. There’s a focus on Provence – the hidden gems and prettiest villages, the French Alps playground of Les Gets, Puy du Fou which I promise you is no ordinary theme park and Rocamadour, the rock of miracles. I caught up with international best-selling author Kate Mosse (Labyrinth) and asked her about her favourite places in France and how they inspire her. There are guides and recipes and some fabulous giveaways, just enter the draw for some great prizes – you’ve got to be in it to win it!

I hope you enjoy it as much as I’ve enjoyed putting it together for you. In fact I enjoyed it so much that I decided to do one more magazine this year. And, it’s very special. A Christmas issue that’s going to be stuffed with style guides, French style Christmas decorations you can make at home and festive recipes including an exclusive and utterly delicious dessert created for us by a Michelin star chef. We’re also going to do some amazing giveaways including a holiday in southern France, art, luxury bedding and more. I figure this Christmas we’re going to need a bit of festive fun to cheer us all up.
